Dwindling Weekends: Part Two

Only three more weekends until I'm in the city. I've become more worried by the fact I have no idea what I want to do in college (or if I even want to stay in school) and less excited about going to Philadelphia. As Riley accurately depicts, it was a pretty lazy weekend round here. I was scheduled to work on Friday but ended up being called off, which wasn't so fortunate since I could use some money.So we joined our friends for a little gathering to watch the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics and I got to wear my favorite patriotic/nautical skirt, which doubles as a strapless top. After being at a total loss for what to do and groaning about our boredom for a half hour, I grabbed my croquet set and we headed to the township park to play a round. Mostly, it ended up as competition to see who could smack the ball the furthest. Sunday came about in the same ho-hum fashion and we all spoke sentimentally and morosely about our departure while eating colorful treats from The Snow Barn. I really hope the next week is a time where we take more advantage of the time we have left instead of being so unmotivated. 

Adventures and Bald Eagles

We've been trying to get some cheap kicks lately because both of us have just happened to be getting called off lately, which is a pain in itself. Since we have been forced to get creative, we have gone on a hand full of fun adventures. Yesterday we sat in a parking lot and watched a beastly storm after doing some window shopping. Since Sam is a little meteorologist, he was super stoked to be out in the storm. (As seen in the top two photos)

This morning we got up at six o'clock and tried to beat the heat on our hike. We had planned on doing a more northern section of the Mason-Dixon Trail System than we normally do and attempted to get on in Mt. Wolf which is only about a 20 minute drive from home. It ended up being that this section of the trail is just on roads and not even through woods. Refusing to be let down by such a lame hike, we drove about 40 minutes south and across the river to Susquehannock State Park. We found some really nice vistas to see our favorite river and a bald eagle (sorry for not catching that on film). The trails here were very well maintained and the difficult trails definitely earned their difficulty rating. and my calves feel it!

Now I'm off to celabrate the opening of the Olympics in an appropriately patriotic outfit which I will upload a picture of soon. Still trying to get a hang of this blgging thing. Thanks, friends! Morgen

A quaint day off

The boy and I took a day to ourselves yesterday. I decided to to spend my "me day" baking cookies, re-purposing some old dresses and browsing way too many blogs for my own good (Like these two).

 

This is my lovely apron my mom got me for Christmas that makes me feel instantly cutesy, and these are the delicious chewy chocolate ship cookies I made with this recipe, because the Toll house recipe doesn't work for me. Ever.

I wish I would have snagged some before photos of the two dresses that I turned into this piece. The original dresses were a navy blue t-shirt dress from Forever21 that I got in a clothing swap, and the other was a white eyelet trimmed dress I picked up at an antique shop in the mountains. The t-shirt dress was getting too short and the eyelet dress had a stain on the bodice. My solution: take the lovely trim and sew it to the bottom of the too-short dress. I think it turned out pretty nice and is of a much more tasteful length. (Added a bow to one shoulder to make a little less Easter-Sunday conservative)

Dwindling weekends: Part One

Weekends are growing fewer as we get closer to take off. However the last few days were quite fun. Sam and I went hiking for the first time in what feels like forever (it's probably been a few weeks), and got to see a lovely outdoor Dawes concert for free, which is our favorite type of concert. I was especially excited about the Dawes concert since I got the chance to wear my yellow striped sun hat out and about, and we got to enjoy the company of our favorite couple along with the music.

Twee (adj): Something that is sweet, almost to the point of being sickeningly so.

I try to live my life as twee as possible, that is to be sickeningly sweet. I found twee music a handful of years ago and the realization that there are others crusading to make the world a cuter place brought a little but of sunshine to my life. Tullycraft, The Orchids, All Girl summer Fun Band, The Smittens - all bands you should check out if you need a few extra smiles. After entering the community of twee-sters I also found a world of women to admire, who run blogs about their lives and pursuit their personal careers, all while being cute as hell. This inspired me.


My love for all things adorable is what I hope to bring to this blog. I bake and want to share recipes. I sew/crochet and hope to share projects. I dress up and hope to share outfits. I love and hope to share stories. I explore the world around me and hope to share photos. I look forward to getting to know others with these same passions and hope you will share with me as well.
